THE ELEMENTS
The Elements is a testimony to an ancient calling of ancestral memory. Drawing from two great traditions and legacies of Africa and Europe, it searches for the elemental essence within both, transcending genres and idioms.
The Elements is a journey from the meditative music of the Kora and the Griot Tradition, rooted in medieval Mali, to contemporary classical compositions for solo cello reflecting (on) the old world. Delving deeper into the core of these traditions actually reveals the universal elements of both.
The Elements is a solo album by the composer and artist, Tunde Jegede, who was uniquely schooled in African and European classical music from the age of eight. He has grown up with these diverse traditions and developed his own distinct voice and musical language. His music touches on the heartbeat of memory and the essential pulse of our inner consciousness. It is a timeless music that carries the essential nature of the eternal through its portrayal of the elements (fire/water/air/earth) and distant traditions
